The Buccal Massage technique, also known as intraoral massage, began in the mid-1980s and involves massaging the pressure points inside the mouth to tighten and contour the buccal fat pad.   The buccinator area can only be accessed from the inside.

Put simply, this unique form of massage is performed on the inner cheeks and targets the muscles from both inside and outside the mouth, offering a thorough and effective technique to enhance facial tone and aesthetics.

The word “buccal” comes from the Latin word bucca, which means “cheek”. During the massage, a beautician inserts their fingers into the oral cavity,  to massage and sculpt the skin. The massage is partly performed from inside the mouth to access the facial muscles.  This course will cover so much more however.. keep reading!

One of my clients described their treatment as a full internal and external valet of the face.  It will tone and sculpt, help disperse fluid build up, it will contour and give  your clients face a naturally youthful and more lifted look.

Circulation will be boosted with that all important glow. Blood circulation will be improved with cell repair enhanced with more oxygen and nutrients flowing to the area.  Your skin will appear and you will feel radiant and rested.

It will help to reduce puffiness and reduce those fine lines and wrinkles.

Once of the biggest benefits that will attract many clients is its ability to vastly reduce stress and induce relaxations.  It will help reduce tension around all the major joints and muscles that some of use none stop all day.. whether that’s from talking or eating!!!!  Have you heard of TMJ dysfunction??

Muscles involved in the TMJ disorder include muscles of the mastication such as the Masseter, Temporalis, and Pterygoids. While Masseter and Temporalis muscles can be accessed from outside of the mouth,  Pterygoids can only be effectively reached from inside the mouth. This massage helps to release tension in these hard-to-reach muscles. Intraoral massage is performed both on the inside of the mouth but also simultaneously.

Other symptoms of TMJ that your clients may discuss with you.

Head – Forehead and temple pain, migraine and sinus pain, shooting pains in the head or neck, hair or scalp painful to touch

Eyes – Pain, bloodshot eyes which may be more sensitive to sunlight.
