Pregnancy Massage

This one day accredited diploma course and you are required to have a body massage diploma already.

You will learn about the health and safety issues relating to providing this relaxing and revitalising treatment on pregnant clients; understand the complexities of what is happening and changing within the body as the baby develops and use this knowledge in the delivery of a fantastic treatment.

During pregnancy there are a lot of stresses and strains upon the body and massage can benefit in so many ways. Not only will the skin, muscles, lymphatic systems benefit from regular massage treatments but the client will find they have an improved posture, improved range of movement, reduction of swelling, it will help to regulate blood pressure, improves mood and gives them an improved sense of self and relaxation.

It is now for some insurers a stipulation that you are trained in pregnancy massage if you want to work on pregnant clients.

Course content

Full practical demonstration and guidance to deliver a full pregnancy massage on a non pregnant model throughout the day. Examples of the different and safe positions you can put your pregnant lady in so that you are able to massage as easily as possible as many of the body areas that are required to be massaged.

Health and Safety at Work Law, Sterilisation and Hygiene in the salon

Data Protection,

Anatomy and Physiology of the changes the body has when pregnant, the different trimesters and development of the baby

Consultation process and an example of the consultation card.

Contra-indications and how to recognise them, Contra-actions

Licensing requirements if required. Professionalism/ Code of Ethics

Local Bylaws that may affect your business e.g. treating minors.

Where to obtain insurance and details of professional associations.

Entry Requirement & Prerequisites

Body Massage Qualification and anatomy & physiology at level 3 or equivalent

1 Day, 14 CPD

Assessment and Examination Method

There will be continuous formative assessments taking place during your training day and you will be expected to answer verbal questions and perform a pregnancy massage.
